Did you and your dog face a medical challenge?

Every dog parent who’s lived through a medical scare knows how lonely it can feel. Your story—what you noticed first, what you tried, what you learned—can help another dog parent feel less lost. If you’ve been through it, you’re already part of the community that can make a difference.

Your story doesn’t have to be polished. Just honest. I’ll take care of the editing if needed.

Share you dog's story

Share your dog’s story—every story matters.

Every symptom you noticed (or missed), every misdiagnosis your dog survived, every difficult choice you made—it can become a lifeline someone else desperately needs.

I remember how I felt when our veterinarian told me Jasmine needed TPLO surgery after she injured her CCL. I looked up the procedure, and I freaked out. How could I do that to my dog? I researched other options. I desperately wanted to know what other people’s experiences were. At that time, I found a single real-life case study on stem cell therapy for CCL injury treatment. That was it. That was why I decided to share all our medical journeys.

Why share your dog’s story?

Dog health issues can be overwhelming and isolating.
Hearing from another owner who has been there can provide:

  • Validation – “I’m not the only one going through this.”
  • Clarity – what early signs others noticed.
  • Hope – what treatments or approaches helped.
  • Warning – what missteps or delays to avoid.
  • Advocacy – empowering dog parents to push for the care their dog deserves.
Share your dog's story. Your dog could be a superhero.

What to share for your story being the most helpful

If you’re not sure how to structure your story, here are some ideas to make it as helpful as possible:

  • What were the first things you noticed?
  • How did you realize something wasn’t right?
  • How did your dog get diagnosed?
  • What treatments did or didn’t help?
  • What surprised you about your vet visits?
  • How did you cope emotionally or day-to-day?
  • What do you wish you had known sooner?

Whether it’s a small scare or a long journey—your experience matters.

  • If you’d rather share your story privately, you can contact me directly — I’m always happy to hear from you. Please use “My dog’s story” in the Subject line
  • Share it in the comments.
  • Send a link if you’ve already written or posted about your journey elsewhere.

Many dog parents search for real-life dog health stories when facing something scary. Your experience might be the one that helps them make sense of what’s happening. Every submission helps another dog parent feel less alone.

You could have your story featured

You could get your dog’s story included in the next edition of my book, Owner-to-Owner Dog Health Series: Decoding Dog Health Speak, or my next book, I’m planning, Your Guide to Finding and Working With a Vet.
